Adding guardians

Guardians are users who can follow a child and view their test results from their own separate account.

When to add a guardian

Add a guardian when:

  • The child has their own phone and the guardian wants to follow the child’s results from their separate account/phone

When NOT to add a guardian

You don't need to add a guardian if:

  • The child will use the guardians phone to perform their tests (common for parents)
  • The guardian doesn't need their own separate AsthmaTuner account

Important: Guardians cannot manage their child’s account from their own account. They can only view test results and send encouraging messages. All tests must be done from the child’s account.

What happens when you add a guardian

  1. The guardian receives an SMS with instructions to create their account (or log in if they already have one)
  2. Once they create their account, they are automatically invited to follow the child
  3. They can view the child’s test results from their own account
  4. They cannot switch between accounts or access the child’s account settings

Using the same phone number for both child and guardian

It's common for parents to use their own phone number for their child's account, and that’s okay.
If you add a guardian with the same phone number as for the child, they will simply receive two separate SMS messages:

  • One with instructions to create the child account
  • One with instructions to create the guardian account

Both accounts will work normally, but the parent will need to manage two separate logins.

Tip: If a parent will use their own phone for the child’s account, adding them as a guardian is usually unnecessary.
